Hello and welcome to my bio. My name is Genesis and I am currently easing through my senior year. I am the President of the Diversity Club, Vice President of the Sketch Club and I take part in the Foreign Language and the Aevidum Club. Publications is an outlet to express my inner creativity, as it provides me the independence and the skills to write stories. I joined Tidelines to further assist in obtaining my goal: to work in publishing one day and inspire others to write creatively!

The recent vaping epidemic targets teens and public high schools are making efforts to try to combat this viral issue. Recently, vape detectors were installed and had been used by many schools, including STC.The vape detectors detect all types of smoke and vapor and send a text message to the phones of teachers and administrators.

Students gather in the little theater to attend a Sketch Club morning meeting. Sketch Club is known by many for afterschool activities hosted by Mrs. Sara Arnold and President Robbie OmahaBoy. Sketch Nights are where students create drawings, participate in contests and other art related activities. Lillian Nelson, senior, said, “I love sketch nights because it allows students to unlock their inner creativity and collaborate with other artists with the same interests. It also provides opportunities to work on any art projects they have in their school schedules.”

PAHS has recently established The Shadow In School pilot program sponsored by Careerlink PA. With many STC students being recruited by the guidance counselor, Mrs. Saunders most see it as an opportunity to gain work experience, earn money and learn new skills that will help them in their future career path . Junior Mason Major says, “I was lucky enough to get selected for the program and I would definitely recommend it due to the good pay.”

April fools is the day meant for tricks, making mischief but more importantly, tons of fun. There are some that relish the day while there are others who dislike it. April Fools pranking can be taken too far and can create situations that may encourage destructive or malicious behaviors. Mr. Raymond Yost said, “In my opinion, it is not appropriate for students to prank teachers. It is better to avoid scenarios that may result in a student being reprimanded for something that was avoidable in the first place. Depending on the severity of an incident, students engaging in pranks taken too far may receive consequences as minor as a formal warning and as severe as out-of-school suspension or even expulsion.”

Daylight Savings (DST) is defined as the systematic practice of setting your clock turning ahead the clock. With that, comes a huge amount of conflicts that leave many restless with one hour of sleep missing from their circadian rhythm. Mrs. Julie Saunders said, “ I am much older, losing an hour of sleep once a year is quite inconvenient. Now that my clocks and phones change time automatically, I have little worry that I will ever miss a time change due to daylight savings time.”

Aevidum selected student leaders to go to Minersville for Aevidum training. Recently, Aevidum Club has been urging students to take a part in aiding the community by mental illnesses through awareness. To join students were required to fill out an application to be selected as a club member.

Diversity club held a conference in the little theater with Principal, Mrs. Tiffany Hummel afterschool. Members spoke with her, conveying their main issues and concerns. During the meeting she said, “What we have to do is continue this progress. I want to say, I’m on your side. I want you guys to come up with solutions for the bathroom’s. Students prepare poetry for the poetry contest titled, “Pottsville in Every Season” sponsored by the yearbook publications staff. The contest runs from Monday, January 24th and ends on February 9th. “We are very excited to bring this new aspect to our yearbook to highlight the artistic talents of Pottsville High students. Diversity Club makes a comeback in October with many joining the club. Senior Kassidy Balulis says, “Students should join the diversity club because it takes you on a journey of acceptance, embracing your differences and what makes you unique, but best of all gives you a support system! joining a club like the diversity club can not only help you break out of your shell and out of your comfort zone, but it could inspire others to want to make a difference as well!”

According to the Pie Chart provided by Mrs. Tiffany Hummel out of 320 responses from PAHS students roughly 85.9% of students voted in favor of the prep while 14.1% of students voted opposed to the pep rally.

Autumn seasonal celebrations taking place in Pottsville. Abigail Powanda says, ““During the cold season in Pottsville. I bundle up when I’m outside but when I’m inside I usually wrap myself with a nice fuzzy blanket, even if it’s warm in my house. Although my absolute favorite thing to do is bundle up with leggings, sweatshirts, boots, and go to Dunkin’ for a nice hot caramel cappuccino.”

“Don’t Bully” with cross out signs. Sketch Club members create posters for October’s Bullying Prevention month. Sketch club members can volunteer to help put up posters around the school. The goal is to create posters to spread awareness and tackle bullying with messages of positivity and awareness, to contribute to the fight against bullying in schools. Junior Lily Kreisler said, “The message we’re trying to spread is only a positive one. Both current and future Pottsville students should know that being themselves is the best thing they can be. Sometimes that fact can be hard to accept, so seeing projects like the posters is a great way of reinforcing an understanding that difference is okay. People should love each other and themselves and I hope that Pottsville, not just the sketch club, will carry that message for all of the future.”
