Sophomores Zoe Holden, Gwen Biddle, and Chloe Heintz stand proud outside of the auditorium steps. All three of them were the winners of the Hugh O’ Brien scholarship. The sophomore class of 2023 had the opportunity to participate and win the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Award. “The Hugh O’Brien scholarship is a event taking place in June to better students leadership skills also to get them more community opportunities. Sophomores in high school get to go and represent their school and better their knowledge of what a leader is,” said Zoe Holden.

The Pottsville girls softball team calls a time out during their scrimmage against Williams Valley on Monday at Pottsville. Even though the girls were coming back in the last two innings they unfortunately lost scoring 8-5. “Although we did not have all of our girls because of COVID-19 I believe we did a great job at the scrimmage,” said freshman Ava Bowers.

This was a challenge done by the reading department at the elementary to see how many books students could read. Maley said, “I was told that they have a decent turn-out, but we really wanted to get more kids reading. We are also trying to keep the virtual students engaged.”

He said, “In the off season for swim, I still have practice. This gives me the advantage over the kids who do not practice in the off season to get better.”

The Gabriel Youth Orchestra celebrates their 10 year anniversary. This group is one of the only orchestras in Schuylkill County. “Orchestra is a great opportunity to meet people from Schuylkill County that care about music just as much as you, and you are bound to learn many important lessons about music and life,” said sophomore Crystal Mease.

Sophomore Victoria Lutz moves mulch to a planter bed at John S. Clarke elementary center on September 16, 2019. Lutz, a student in the PAHS Life Skills class, had the opportunity to learn landscaping skills with her peers while helping beautify the school grounds. “I loved learning how to landscape because it’s different from everyday school activities.”

Homecoming King, Owen Golden and Homecoming Queen, Madison Dalton stood together after being crowned. After being crowned, the two stand together in excitement, as they will become future role models of PAHS. “I ran for homecoming king because I asked my friends if I should run and they said yes, you would win,” senior Golden said.
