Seniors Jersey-Lynn Cook and Kierstin Schmitt pose while shopping for prom dresses. Last year’s prom was canceled due to COVID-19 and left all seniors and their dates devastated. “This is the first time I am going to a prom and I’m excited to spend the night with friends and having a great time to remember,”said senior Jersey Cook.

Last year’s spring prom was cancelled due to COVID-19 pandemic.

This year’s prom is at St. Nicholas Hall on May 1st for all seniors and their dates. Pottsville usually has their prom Hillcrest in Minersville, but as of an announcement they made towards the end of the year in 2019, they aren’t hosting anymore events.

Even though prom is still a day or so away, getting accessories and the right dress/suit is very important. Places around Schuylkill county have many options to purchase accessories as well as dresses and tuxedos.

Finding a date might be easy but finding the perfect dress will never be anything but fun. Some popular dress shops that are close are The White Pear in Schuylkill Haven, Special Moments in Pine Grove, and Juliette by Ivana in Pottsville.

For the guys some tuxedo shops include Strictly Formals of Pottsville, Mr T’s Menswear & Tuxedo Rentals, Juliette Bridals By Ivana, Special Moments, Charles X Block, and there are also many more.

Students who are attending the prom are rather excited considering the circumstances last year.

Senior Robert Walchak said “I’m excited that we actually get to have a prom this year. It’s really nice that we are actually able to get one in. it’s something nice we actually get for senior year, unlike most things taken from us. but it is sad knowing it’s my last high school prom I’m going to. i remember going to 8th grade prom thinking high school was gonna last so long, and now i’m looking to graduate in a month of two.”

Many seniors who are attending this year’s prom are grateful for the opportunity this year to spend time with their friends.

“I’m super excited for this prom since it’s my senior year. I was really worried that we wouldn’t be able to have one this year but I’m thankful I’ll be able to have one last hooray with my friends before we leave for college. It’s a nice way to end my high school adventure,” said senior Emma Stamm.

“This is the first time I am going to a prom and I’m excited to spend the night with friends and having a great time to remember,” said senior Jersey- Lynn Cook.

There are also proms at other schools that Pottsville students are looking forward to.

“I am excited about spending time with my friends from different schools. Along with being able to express myself in different dresses and hairstyles. I’m also excited to see everyone else’s dresses and tuxedos to see how everyone pulls things off,” said junior Lauren Klinger
