The Drama Club presented How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying in March, and according to Mrs. Maria Malek, Drama Club adviser and English teacher, audience numbers are lower in years when the musical does not have high name recognition. “Our audience numbers were not as high as they were in previous years,” Mrs. Malek said.

MOTIVATE - During her presentations to the AP Calculus class, Ms. Heather Shappell explains her career in biostatistics and where her career has taken her in life. Ms. Shappell spoke to all honors and AP math classes along with the Introduction to Statistics class. “One piece of advice that I can give to all students is that you do not have to be a genius to go into a math career. If you work really hard and get involved in an area of math that you enjoy, it can get you a long way,” Ms. Shappell said.

Joyce represented Schuylkill County in various events over the past year. “Being the Winter Carnival Snowflake Princess has been a learning experience in many ways,” Joyce said. “I am looked up to by little girls, so it is important that I am a role model for them. I take that very seriously.”

HELPING - Seniors Kalie Tobin and Matilyn Ashfield, Sketch Club members, volunteer their time to manage the refreshments at the Family Paint Nite. The PASD art department raised enough money to cover the cost of art supplies for the rest of the school year. “I really enjoyed helping out. I feel like these events bring the community together. I would volunteer again. I think it is a good thing to do for the school,” senior Kalie Tobin said.

Quiz Team members attended their last match of the year March 31; they competed against all the schools in the county. “The senior varsity members that competed were Charles Botto, Rachel Rubright, Jessica Wensus, Jessica Angelichio, Logan Spevak and Colin Williams. The seniors did an outstanding job this year and won 70 percent of the total matches they competed in,” Mrs. Krista Torpey, Quiz Team adviser, said.

Butler had to take a car engine totally apart and put it back together for one of his project grades. “I decided to go to STC because I wanted to learn about mechanics and I like to work on cars. I specifically like to work on engines,” Butler said. “It’s the hands-on experience that really helps.”

Sophomore and band member Lakota Brode was among the spectators who went to see the lighting of the tree. “Being at the tree lighting felt as if I was playing a solo in front of 50 people. My favorite part was when we finished early and started playing spirit stick,” Brode said.
