Ryan March, running when the race against Jim Thorpe and Tamaqua first kicked off. “Meet days are always fun until you realize you have to run,” said sophomore Ryan March.

It has been a good fall sports season for Pottsville Area High School. But especially, boys and girls cross country. After a hard fulfilling season, these athletes are happy their season is over. Leagues were held at White Birch and Districts were at DeSales University.

Seven of the boys and seven of the girls made it to districts. Cullen Clarke described how grassy and hill oriented the course at White Birch is and how he doesn’t run well in grass. He is the fastest runner on the boys cross country team.

“I feel like I could’ve done a lot better, but I always have next year,” said Clarke. Clarke’s personal best was 19 minutes and 18 seconds at Jim Thorpe. The course was 3.1 miles.

Clarke said that his favorite meet would have to be at Haven because he placed 12th place out of 80 runners.

Clarke placed 35th out of 85 at League’s, and 44th out of 99 at District’s. Clarke surpassed his expectations of how the season would go after not being that “big of a cross country guy.”

“My season was really good! I had a lot of fun with my teammates and even got a new personal record.” said senior, Haily Mervine.

“My season was great. It definitely went better than my freshman and sophomore season combined!” said junior, Dominic Alvarez.
