Mini Thon held annual Gold Out
The Gold Out was Friday, February 3, 2023 at Martz Hall. The event took place during the boys’ varsity basketball game against Blue Mountain. At the Gold Out the students wore their custom-made Gold Out T-Shirts to show their support of the PAHS Mini Thon and show their school pride.
“I love the gold out! The Gold Out is usually against our rivals Blue Mountain which makes the game even better and more intense.” Said Senior Ava Jefferson “I also feel like it brings the whole school together which is always nice to see the school spirit.”
The annual Gold Out event is meant to raise awareness for the Four Diamonds organization, and to help raise money for children suffering with pediatric cancer.
“My favorite part about the Gold Out is hanging out with my friends at the game,” said Jefferson. “It’s always a good time watching the guys play the game but also support the kids.”
There was a Pep Rally held during school on Friday to bring awareness to Mini-THON and what they are doing throughout the year. The Pep Rally was also to get students to participate in the Gold Out at the boys’ basketball game on Friday. If a student had not purchased a Gold Out t-shirt, there were t-shirts available for sale at the basketball game.
“I was definitely excited for everyone to wear their Gold Out shirts, support our boys, and support a worthy cause,” said advisor Mrs. Tracy James.
Mini Thon is a leadership club at PAHS. The club works together to foster teamwork and develop philanthropic skills. Mini Thon helps raise money for Four Diamonds, a charity that supports families with pediatric cancer and conducts research to end childhood cancer at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital in Hershey, PA.
Mini Thon works hard to raise the money for children in need. In this process they have two big events that include the student body in what they do as well like the Gold Out and the big event in the Spring.
