The Importance of Change

It’s no surprise that students may often get frustrated with school. For some it’s the waking up early, for some it’s the homework, and for some it’s just having the responsibility on their shoulders of getting assignments done on time. But something that every student has in common is that they all have at least one thing they want to change about the school system.

According to https://www.ece.gov.nt.ca, education renewal is very important to have an effective system. They said, “Change around the world is driven by exciting new research on how the brain works and how people learn. Learners must not only develop what they know, but also skills, attitudes, and values that will help them be capable people.”

We asked some of the students attending Pottsville high school what they would change about the school system if they could, and they had some very interesting answers. Sophomore Kaitlyn Cicero said, “I’d change how technology based school is. I find it easier to do my work on paper, and not many teachers give the option to work with a pencil rather than a keyboard.”

Many students find gratification of having a physical copy of what they’re learning in their hands rather than just reading it on a screen. While this may be the opposite for some students, many people would prefer to have a choice between the two.

Going a more personal route with Pottsville, sophomore Mackenzie Androshick said, “I would definitely prefer to not carry around the shield all day.”

While the face shields are being used for safety and they are very beneficial during this time, there is no point in denying that it can be annoying to carry them around all day. Especially when you’re not used to it.

Whether it be a small inconvenience or an issue that would cause major change, every student has something they would change about the school they go to. However, during this time of need let’s try to look at the bright side. We are in this together.
