Foreign language week is a week during early March that highlights the three languages here at Pottsville, being German, Spanish, and French. Each day, a new language is introduced on the announcements, which is displayed by reciting the National Anthem in both American and the other language.
To add on, there is a poster contest throughout each language with a cash prize, and sometimes even extra credit. There is also a National Honor Society dedicated to each language, with the top students of each being awarded.
“I was a bit nervous because I didn’t want to mess up on the announcements heard throughout the school, but I tried not to overthink it. But, after I finished announcing, I was happy I could be involved in foreign language week in some way,” Senior Lauren Kelly said.
Overall, Foreign language week highlights each language in high schools across the world. With Ceremonies and speeches, students can be recognized for their hard work and dedication to learning a new language, while being at the top of their level.
