Stage band encourages students to join
Improv, solos, and lots of gold instruments; all of these things are a part of a stage band. Without one or the other, it’s just a plain old band.
Stage band consists of people who play the saxophone, tenor saxophone, bari saxophone, trumpet, trombone, drums, and even clarinet. The song choices consist of songs from the 1900’s to modern day music.
Joining stage band is a good opportunity if you’re not currently enrolled in concert band and want to play music as an after school activity. Everyone in stage band enjoys it and thinks it’s a great way to express your joy for music.
“Stage band is a great experience for musicians of any level to have fun while learning a different style of music not typically played in concert/marching band. I’m very excited to perform this Spring on an instrument I don’t usually play. Stage band is open to anyone who wants to have fun and gain some skill in music!” said Junior Emily Lucas.
“I like stage band because I like learning the differences between music. It’s fun learning a new style of music just because it’s different,” said junior Grace Huff.”
Last year was the first year the stage band included clarinets. Clarinets are usually a part of stage bands, but they just recently added clarinets to the school’s stage band.
“Normally clarinets aren’t allowed in a stage band, but I play as a “tenor saxophone”. I never did something like this before, and it’s really fun, even though the music can be confusing,” said sophomore Madison Eroh.
Around May, stage band has their two concerts: one is played at John S. Clarke’s elementary school for the Art show, and the second is held at our auditorium.
Anyone who is interested in playing jazz music is welcome to join. Rehearsals are every Tuesday from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
