The hottest gifts this holiday season (computer art)

From a creature magically hatching from an egg to the latest iPhone, 2016 is the year for diverse gift shopping. Here are some of 2016’s most popular and wanted gifts:

  1. Hatchimals: Arguably the most popular toy of 2016, Hatchimals are creatures that literally hatch from an egg after a certain amount of interaction with the user. The user must rub and tap the egg in order to “wake it up” and cause it to hatch. Once the creature hatches, it goes through three life stages: baby, toddler and kid.
  2. Mermaid Blankets: A craze primarily directed at teens who have seen this blanket all over their Twitter and Instagram feeds, these mermaid blankets are exactly what they sound like: a blanket knit into a shape similar to a mermaid’s tail. Teens all over the internet have been talking about this simple yet adorable gift.
  3. Airfryers: Move over KitchenAid mixer, this is the appliance that every cook in your life wants as a gift this year. According to amazon.com, Airfryers are designed to fry in a manner that is 75% healthier and cooks faster than the classic fryer. The airfryer is shaped similarly to an egg and uses rapid air technology which circulates air throughout the apparatus in order to quickly cook the food.
  4. Apple iPhone 7 and 7+: The latest version of the long chain of Apple iPhones was released back in September, but this new phone is still one of the hottest gifts this year. With its high-retina display, wireless headphones called “AirPods,” and a redesigned camera, the iPhone 7 and 7+ are attracting users from all over the globe. It was also the first generation of iPhones to come equipped with iOS 10, the software program designed specifically for Apple products.
  5. Gaming Consoles: The two popular gaming systems for teens this year are the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Although the PS4 is about $20 more than the Xbox One, both systems offer virtually the same perks and qualities. Be careful when you are buying one of these; some games are offered for only one console and not the other.
  6. VR Headsets: A virtual reality headset is a device that is put over your eyes and projects a high definition image through the device. The device is synced to a gaming console (for example, a PlayStation) so that it feels like you are an actual part of the game.
  7. NES Classic Edition: Since it is priced at $59.99 and comes with preloaded games, this system from Nintendo is attracting many gift givers. The NES Classic takes kids back to the old style of gaming. It is based on the original NES system which was released in 1985. The only thing that users have to do in order to play games like Donkey Kong and The Legend of Zelda is connect the device to their television. These systems from Nintendo are very hard to find this late in the season; people have been standing outside of major retailers like Target to try to get their hands on one.
