Snapchat updates bring mixed reviews (Photos)
“Today I think I am going to send a dog filter Snapchat to all my streaks.”
If you can decode that sentence without a doubt, then you know what Snapchat is. If you struggled, it’s something you should give a try.
Snapchat, an application that came across cell phone users in September 2011 and has over 100 million daily users, has been evolving with updates at least once a month, sometimes once a week. But like most apps, updates come with good and bad reviews.
My favorite features consist of memories, streaks and the filters.
Memories:
Memories is a new way to save snaps and stories on Snapchat. It is a personal collection of favorite moments taken on Snapchat. A cool feature within memories is “my eyes only,” where users can keep pictures they do not want to lose or other people to see.
Streaks:
A snap streak is the newest fad when it comes to Snapchat. Having a streak means that two people have been Snapchatting back and forth every day. To show that two people are holding a streak, a fire emoji appears next to their usernames along with the number of days the streak has been going on. I have over 20 snap streaks with my highest hitting 180. After you start a streak, it practically becomes a job, having to keep up with several of them. Seeing who has the longest streak, or the highest amount of streaks is the new fad.
Free filters:
When Snapchat came out with facial filters, like a dog and face swap, the application became more enjoyable. But Snapchat users were shocked when creators wanted people to pay for the filters after a certain amount of time. Noticing the negative feedback on that choice, Snapchat made all filters free.
There were also a few things that I wish would change.
Not seeing others’ best friends:
When Snapchat first came out, one could see another person’s “top 3” best friends. People enjoyed this feature because, let’s be real, some people, including me, are nosey and enjoy knowing who’s talking to whom. I remember the day this feature disappeared; it was wild.
Filters not staying forever:
As I mentioned in the snapchat features that are loved, an aspect of filters also makes this list. Some facial filters stay only for a day or two, and sometimes, they are filters that people adore.
Snapchat is always coming out with new updates. Considering it is my favorite social media, I am excited to see what else they produce. Each update is more interesting than the last, so I do not think I will ever be bored with Snapchat.
