Cullen Clarke is a senior at Pottsville Area High School that runs in both cross country and track. He has some of the best stats in the league and was one of the top five guys last season and is hoping to be in the top three for this season. On top of running he is also involved in multiple clubs including big impact, key club, mini thon, and he is an Editor in Chief photographer for the yearbook.
Since his freshman year, he has been a top notch runner only getting better and better every year. He has one thing to thank for this and one thing alone. His lucky Nike headband.
“I’ve been rocking a headband since seventh grade and it’s all just a superstitious thing. I feel like putting it on is one of those things I need to do before I run to really stay focused. All my hopes and dreams are realized once that headband gets put on my head,” Clarke said.
As much as Clarke disagrees, he really is dominating the league with some amazing stats. Having a 17:29 time at the Moravian Invite, 17:33 at the Schuylkill League Championship and 17:39 at the DeSales invite. He does have plans to run in college and his stats are so great, colleges have individually reached out to him.
Cullen Clarke did not get his running start all on his own. Running runs in his family. “Someone I’ve always looked up to are my parents just because they also ran growing up so they are really familiar with it and give me tips daily,” said Clarke.
Senior Cullen Clarke is going to be someone to look out for in the future with his running skills. Advice Clarke gives to anyone wishing to take up running is, “Practice consistently. It’s best to always be running. It doesn’t matter how fast or how slow. It’s about consistency. And if you can get consistent, you’ll see so much progress.”
