Energy drinks have recently become a popular drink in society among teenagers and young adults. Brands like Red Bull, Celsius, Alani, and others have been selling out of stores with new flavors, and special additions. Similar to other trends, students at our school are participating in this one too. While these drinks are delicious, fun, and popular, they also come with bad side effects.
For teenagers 100mg of caffeine is the maximum limit for a healthy dose. These energy drinks contain over 200mg per serving. Many students will drink more than one a day. 400mg of caffeine is the maximum amount for an adult person to intake and many students are drinking that amount and more. Drinking too much caffeine can cause many problems, headaches, heart issues, fatigue, and other symptoms.
“I drink them everyday. They don’t have any bad effects on me, quite the opposite. They help me stay focused and stay attentive at all times,” Sophomore Megan Yost said.
Although you think energy drinks are helping you in the long run they aren’t.
It is important to know the effects stemming from them. If you are to drink them one a day should be the limit. It is also recommended to choose the smaller cans with less caffeine. Please be aware of symptoms and effects that may occur from drinking energy drinks and remember to be safe and healthy if you do decide to drink them.
