It’s a tradition here at PAHS and schools around the county to nominate people for the winter carnival. Every year, three junior girls are selected to have the chance to run for Snowflake Princess. By a past snowflake princess Brenna McGowan who is a Pottsville alum, said it was “an honor.”
When Senior Lauren Kelly, one of last year’s representatives, was asked about her experience last year, she had only good things to say. “Experiencing the Winter Carnival for the first time is something I will never forget. It helped me discover a more outgoing version of myself that could get up and speak in front of people without shutting down,” she said.
All three girls shared their excitement for the process. Even though it doesn’t start for another month, they are all ecstatic. They shared why they decided to run and how this will impact them in the future.
“I decided to run because I did the snowdrop princess competition when I was younger, and my friend Alaina did it her junior year, which was very inspiring to me. I’m very excited to participate in winter carnival and I’m looking forward to meeting new people from other schools,” junior Maggie Colna said.
“I decided to run because I thought it would be fun to campaign. I am most excited to run for winter carnival with some of my closest friends because I know the experience will be one to remember,” junior Jules Sharockman said.
