The Success of Mini-THON

On Friday March 22, the fifth annual Mini-THON was held at the high school. Mini-THONs are held statewide, encouraging individuals to donate funds to cover the costs childhood cancer presents. Mini-THONs often include activities such as basketball, dodgeball, bean bag tosses, and a glow dance party.

“My favorite event at Mini-THON was the basketball because I got to spend time with my friends while helping a good cause,” said sophomore Kierstin Schmitt.

At the Mini-THON, there were a variety of events for attendants to participate in. Besides basketball, attendants were able to participate in the dodgeball tournament.

“I thought that the dodgeball event was the best, because not only was I playing in it, but also because it brought everyone together because everyone watched it. I haven’t attended the event before, but I think that it was what I expected; it was a good time for a good cause,” said sophomore Dylan Bohorad.

After all of the contests and other events were finished, the total amount raised by club members and other school representatives was revealed to every person who remained present at the Mini-THON. The total amount raised was $9,259.96.

“My favorite event was revealing our total amount of money raised at the end of the night because we’ve been working hard all year to get donations,” said sophomore Breyana Garman.

Some students were even recognized as top fundraisers by raising money through Missy’s Cookies, Thonvolopes, the 5k race, quarter zip sales, dine outs at Roma and the Wheel and the Donordrive.

“I’ve never experienced a Mini-THON before, nor have I ever participated in one, so I didn’t really know what to expect. However, with this being my first one I can definitely say I enjoyed the whole adventure. It was also cool to have tied for fifth in the rank for highest raisers. I look forward to next year’s Mini-THON!” said sophomore Amie Ashfield.
