Over 100 students and community members attended the annual Mini-THON to help donate money to and support childhood cancer research. From dancing with friends to playing a match of volleyball, everyone was helping out in some way.

“Mini-THON was fun because I got to donate to childhood cancer [research] and play volleyball. I enjoyed how everyone was playing games with each other. They came together to support a good cause. I will go next year and maybe play a game,” junior Alyssa Cicero said.

It was not all fun and games to host Mini-THON. Organizing the event took a lot of fundraising for months. The Mini-THON Committee thought of many fundraising ideas to make the event possible, such as selling cookies, T-shirts and FTK items.

“Our event was our best yet as we raised $4,200 to benefit the Four Diamonds Fund. Our student body has really grown to enjoy this event, and our committee is planning many improvements for Mini-THON ’18. We are exploring a 5K race, a glow party in the girls’ gym and a team dodgeball tournament as additions to our event,” Mr. Nathan Halenar, English teacher and Key Club adviser, said.

The students involved get excited every year now for the event. They have goals and predictions for next year already.

“I had a lot of fun helping out at Mini-THON. I’m excited for next year. I think we are going to raise even more money to donate,” junior Kalie Tobin said.

Having this event not only benefits the Four Diamonds Fund, but it also helps the student body come together.

“I wanted to get involved in Mini-THON because I like helping people. And we are helping conquering childhood cancer. That is awesome to do because it brings everyone together to raise money for a good cause,” junior Bryana Shrom said.
