On Tuesday, November 7, the DHH Lengel Middle School staff, symphonic band, Tide Tones, and PBIS Ambassadors honored veterans who are members of students’ families. All Lengel students were encouraged to invite a veteran family member to the event. In the morning, the cafeteria staff gave the veterans coffee, milk, donuts, and other special treats to enjoy. After the veterans had a special breakfast with their family members, we moved into the auditorium for the band and Tide Tones performances. We heard “God Bless America,” “My Country Tis of Thee,” and “This Is My Country,” among others. The staff and students gave recognition to veterans who have both died and served by hanging up stars around the cafeteria. Any veteran who has passed away had a black ribbon on their star, while living veterans did not. The stars also included the branch in which they served. Everyone had wonderful things to say about the program and it has become a cherished tradition at Lengel.
