What can you ACHIEVE?
Do you know what the Schuylkill Achieve after school program is? Well, many of you probably do, but if you don’t, keep reading! Miss Shappell, a fifth grade teacher, is in charge of the program with help from many other teachers at D.H.H. Lengel Middle School. In the beginning of the school year, students received a paper asking if they wanted to be a part of this exciting after school program. The students in the program receive a snack, some homework help, and fun activities such as physical fitness, arts and crafts, and STEM lessons. There are also field trips and other opportunities available only to Achieve students. Any student in grades 5-8 can join Schuylkill Achieve.
“I don’t feel kids have the opportunity to socialize in an educational setting, and Achieve provides that,” Miss Shappell said.
The program runs Monday through Thursday starting at 3:00 p.m and concluding at 6:00 p.m. Students do not need to attend every day, and do not need to stay until 6:00 if they have other commitments. There are usually between 3-5 teachers available at Achieve every night, which is especially helpful for homework and project help. You also get to interact with teachers and other students in a different setting, like Miss Shappell mentioned. If you normally get a bus home from school, you can get a bus home from the program at 6:00.
Now that you know more about the Achieve After School Program, I hope you join next year or see Miss. Shappell in room 209 for a registration form to join this school year.
