ETC with Cailey Carl

“Carnations”, “Drowning”, and “Dying Love” are among many of the pieces junior Cailey Carl has painted.

DS: What subjects do you like to paint the most?

CC: I like to paint a lot of inanimate objects as well as animals. There’s not much life in still life so I like to bring interest and liveliness to the objects. I also started painting animals due to my love of them.

DS: How long have you been painting for?

CC: I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember, but I started to paint with acrylics first in early middle school.

DS: Who is your favorite artist and painting by him?

CC: My favorite artist has always been Vincent Van Gogh. Picking a favorite single painting is very hard for me, but the one that pops up first in my mind is Gogh’s Skull with Burning Cigarette.

DS: How long does it typically take for you to create a finished piece?

CC: The time it takes to create a whole work depends on the size and subject, but it usually takes me a few hours to do so.

DS: Is there anything you typically do when you paint?

CC: When I paint I usually listen to calming indie music because what better way is there to create art than to do so listening to art? I also feel more creative early in the day or late at night.
