Hello there. I'm a staffer on Tide Lines. I'm the in the pit band for school musicals, president of chess club and a member of the quiz team. In my free time, I enjoy playing instruments like violin, saxophone and bassoon.

Drama Club Travels to New Hope for a Festival

All of the seniors involved in this years production, actors, stage crew, and musicians, posed for a picture in front of a bell on stage. Whether they have participated in the program all four years or are freshman in the program, they have all been touched by it. Senior Payton Renninger said, When I was a freshman, I never thought that I would ever participate in Drama Club since I would always get nervous to perform in front of people. Never would I have thought of having the part I had. It had brought me out of my shell and I was able to experience so many emotions with this club.”

Students who excel in their foreign language classes enjoy a special breakfast. Later that day, they were inducted into their respective Foreign Language National Honors Societies. Sophomore Emma Smith said, It was fun to sit next to all my friends and chat for a bit while we ate donuts and drank capri suns.

Sophomore Greta Snukis is attempting to do tricks on her trampoline while blindfolded. The film “Bird Box” was released on December 21, 2018, and made some people attempt to do things blindfolded in something called the “Bird Box Challenge.” Greta said, “I wanted to do the Bird Box gymnastics challenge because it looked silly and I love my trampoline.”

Members of the band and band front are putting on their pregame show before a football game/ The performance ended in the band spelling out TIDE and playing the tune March Grandioso. Sophomore Emma Smith said I always had so much fun being around the entire band during marching season.

The quiz team has been going strong under the direction of Mrs. Krista Torpey for three years. Senior Victoria Oswald said, I like quiz team. It’s good practice for if I ever get on Jeopardy, because I’d love to win some money playing that.”

Victoria Oswald and musicians play for students at JSC. The ensemble members put on festive clothing and played Christmas music for third and fourth grade students. Junior Wesley Evans said, I enjoyed going down to the elementary school to see some of my old teachers and play for the little kids.

Freshman Tanya Johnson is watching the trailer for Detective Pikachu before school. The trailer was released on November 12 and will be coming out next summer. It seems like an interesting movie. I used to like the tv show when I was younger, so this should be fun to watch, Tanya said.

Gwen Hamilton, freshman, collects money for Penny-a-Week. Student Council has been using these donations to buy presents for children for years. Every child deserves to wake up with a smile, John Hanaway said.

Mr. Schuttler, the middle school’s librarian, is a volunteer firefighter. He said, “We got called down to the station. We were going around … house to house trying to get to people who had been affected by the flood, out of the flood. Once the water receded, then we switched to pumping out basements. We pretty much just set up teams going house to house trying to get to get the water out of their basements, and we did that for the rest of the week. It was a flash flood, so the water came up, flooded, and then dropped again. So once everyone was safe, we had to switch to getting them back to together again. We had to set up a shelter. Some people were in the shelter for a few hours. They assembled a food pantry in town for the people who lost most everything in the flood. Once the basements were done, it switched to some workers coming in and cleaning up all the debris.”

In front of a statue of Jane Frances de Chantal, sophomores Lily McDonald, Kendra Speak, and Jake Montgomery pose for the camera. The Drama Club, Stage Crew, and Dramatic Literature class went on a field trip to DeSales University to watch a Shakespeare play. “It was nice to see profesional actors so we can learn from them and do better. The show was good and fresh,” Autumn McDonough, senior said.
