Pottsville Crimson Tide Football hopes to bounce back this week after a devastating loss to Tamaqua. The Tide has started off their year with a sub .500 record 1-2. The Tide started off their year traveling to Shamokin to take on the Indians. They struggled against a much bigger team losing the first game of the Mike Brennan era by a score of 28-13. The Tide struggled to say the least, allowing over 300 yards on the ground. While the Tide lost the game they also suffered another massive loss losing senior and team captain Ryan Galen for the year with a torn ACL.
Following this loss the Tide bounced back crushing the visiting Jim Thorpe Olympians by a score of 48-7. The team met the high expectations some had set in the beginning of the season. The team was led by Juju Bainbridge who ran for 120 yards and ran in 3 touchdowns. Following this massive win the Tide was riding tons of momentum coming into the game against Tamaqua. The Tide was leading the game with less than 40 seconds left in the game where they unfortunately allowed a touchdown with 12.3 seconds left in the game.
While the Tide may have a losing record they have tons of flashes on both sides of the ball. Breakout years from Juju Bainbridge and Tsirell Curry have helped the Tide look almost unstoppable on offense at times in the year. On the defensive side of the ball they are being led by seniors Tahlill Fluker-White and team captain Brayden Evans. The captains of the team this year are seniors Tsirell Curry, Luke Shane, Brayden Evans, and Ryan Galen.
Senior and team captain Brayden Evans says, “I feel good about the team going forward from here. While we have struggled at times I feel confident we can turn it around and finish the year above .500.” Evans continued by saying, “ We definitely have a tough schedule ahead of us but we are confident moving forward.”
