Celebrating Presidents’ Day
Presidents’ Day was on Monday, February 19th. Presidents’ Day is an American holiday celebrated on the third Monday in February. The holiday originally established in 1885 in recognition of President George Washington. In some countries, it is still called “Washington’s Birthday.” It was named after the federal government.
On Presidents’ Day, some people celebrate the holiday by honoring former presidents, especially those that have passed away. We are lucky enough to have a day off from school for Presidents’ Day.
Do you know how many presidents that we have had so far? There were 44. Just before Donald Trump was president, Barack Obama was the 44th president. But in reality, some people say there only has been 43 before Donald Trump because Grover Cleveland is technically counted twice as our 22th & 24th president.
Our 45th president, who took office in January 2017, is President Donald Trump. I hope you enjoyed learning about Presidents’ Day and that you enjoyed your free day of not having school!
