How to make a gecko keychain
If you are bored and looking for something to do, I would suggest trying to make a gecko keychain! It’s super easy and fun!
For this project, you will need:
- A key ring
- Masking tape
- Plastic lacing
- 30 pony beads for the main color of your gecko
- 20 pony beads in the accent color of your gecko
- 2 pony beads for the eyes(preferably black or white)
First, you will need to cut your plastic lacing to approximately four feet. Get your plastic lacing and fold it in half so there is a loop at the top. Stick your loop through the key ring, then pull it down a little bit, then pull your two ends through the loop so that it is attached to the key ring. Then, tape your key ring to a table with a small piece of masking tape.
Then, you need to separate your two pieces of lace and bring the left piece of lace up. Take one bead of your accent color and slide it onto the left string. Take your right string and thread it through the bead the opposite way. Then, pull it tightly to the top of the key ring. Now, thread on two main color beads the same way you did it with your first bead. Now, you are going to take one of the eye beads and put it on the left string. Then, put on your main color and the other eye and thread it together. Thread on two more main color beads onto your forming gecko.
This part gets a bit tricky. We are going to make the arms of your gecko.
Put one main color and three accent colors onto the left string. Do not thread the other side into it. Let it fall all the way to the end of the lace. Pull your three accent beads away from the main color bead. Thread your left side lace into the main color bead and pull it tightly. Do that same process but with the right lace.
Go back to your regular threading pattern by threading on two main color beads. Now, we are going to start to make the belly. Thread on one main color, one accent color, and then one main color. Do it again but thread on one main color, two accent colors, and one main color. Do this again, and after that, do the thread on one main color, one accent color, and one main color. Then, thread on two main colors. Now, you are going to make the legs. You need to repeat the same process like you did with your arms. Thread on two main colors, then one accent color.
The last part of the gecko is making the tail. Pull your two ends of lace together, and slide on the remains six main color beads and one accent bead. Now, double knot the two ends of your lace, and cut off a little bit of the ends.
Voilà! You have made yourself a gecko keychain! Now, you know how to make it if you are bored again, maybe with different colors!
