Movie Reviews: “Soul”
Justine Siminitus
On December 25, 2020, Disney and Pixar’s “Soul” started streaming exclusively on Disney+. Just like any other Disney movie, “Soul” has comedy bits and life lessons. The theme of this new movie is to live every minute to its fullest, because you never know which one could be your last. I personally really liked “Soul” because it was so different from any movies I have ever watched. I would really recommend watching any Disney and Pixar movies, because they each are so different in regards to their life lessons.
“Soul” is about a man named Joe Gardener, played by Jamie Foxx, set in New York City, and is in love with jazz. As soon as he is about to get his big break, something happens to him, sending his soul to The Great Beyond. He then escapes to The Great Before, where he is assigned to help a soul, Tina Fey, find their spark so they can become life on Earth. This soul, who goes by the name of 22, tries to help Joe on his mission of getting back to Earth to fulfill his life’s purpose.
To conclude, I highly recommend checking out Disney and Pixar’s “Soul”, and if this movie is inaccessible to you, I would recommend finding a family member or friend who has Disney+, and watching in with them. Trust me, you won’t regret it!

The movie “Soul” came out on the 25 of December. So I watched the movie and it is, in my opinion, a very emotional movie. The movie is about a 48-year-old jazz musician named Joe Gardener. He strives to better his life, yet he dies, twice. Then he “mentors” or teaches this soul named 22. He struggles to teach her because she has been failed 100 times or so. She has been fail by Marie Antoinette, Gandhi, and Muhammad Ali…just to name a few.
The movie is very, very deep. It taps a lot into death and depression. When watching the movie you really feel Joe Gardener. I really relate to the movie because my dad and myself are both musicians. You can feel the struggle of not arriving to the gig on time. Especially if you are a piano or percussion player (the heavy instruments that take more time to put together).
I suggest you sit down and watch the movie. The movie is located on Disney Plus.
