March Madness is coming to an end
UNC and Kansas compete to win it all tonight at 9:20 P.M at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. March Madness is dened as the time period during the month of March when the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) basketball tournament is in occurrence. The NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament is a single-elimination tournament of 68 teams that compete in seven rounds for the national championship. There will be 14 tournament locations in the 2022 NCAA Tournament running from March 15 to April 4.
It has become extremely common in pop-culture to predict the outcomes of each game, even among non-sports fans. The tournament was created in 1939 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, and was the idea of Ohio State coach Harold Olsen. Played mostly during March, it has become one of the largest annual sporting events in the United States.
With all the upsets and all the buzzer beaters, March Madness is the time for basketball lovers. “I enjoy watching March Madness a lot, more so on the opening games of the tournament. I also love watching all the upsets. I was sad to see Villanova lose to Kansas but they had a good run,” said junior Jacob Begansky.
“None of the teams I was hoping for made the nal four so I thought the tournament was alright. In my bracket I had Duke winning the championship,” said junior Kintay Moore.
The University of South Carolina triumphed over the University of Connecticut with a score of 64-49, crowning the Gamecocks as 2022 NCAA March Madness champions in the women’s bracket. The University of South Carolina won last year’s tournament also. The women’s tournament featured 64 teams. The 40th annual edition of the tournament began in March 2022 and concluded with the championship game on April 3 at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
March Madness pools are a form of sports-betting based on the annual NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament each spring in the United States. The increasing interest in this event is fostered by March Madness pools, or brackets.“I always did March Madness brackets with my family and I enjoyed competing with them yearly. I would always tune into the tournament to make sure my bracket is racking in the most points possible,” said junior Lauren Kane.
