Following a week where the Pottsville Area boys varsity basketball team where they found themselves ranked number 8 in the Sweet Sixteen they suffered their first loss. After starting the year 3-0 and 2-0 in league play, Minersville handed them their first loss.
Starting off the week the Tide won a tight game against league opponent Tamaqua. In a back and forth game, the Tide pulled out a victory by a score of 64-59. Leading scorers of that game was Christian Alvarez with 17 points, Derek Watkins added 11 points and Montone added 15 himself.
Coming into the game Thursday, they faced a major challenge. Former coach Dave Mullaney, and his team came in on a win streak as well. Facing the former coach Pottsville struggled on offense and lost the game 44-34.
In the following weeks the team has tough games. We’ve seen talent and hope that the talent prevails in the remainder of the season.
