The Wrestling team poses after winning the Schuylkill Championships. The Schuylkill League Championships were held at Blue Mountain this year. “It was satisfying to win the league after training throughout all of high school, it was important to the team as well as my teammates to bring it home,” said senior Mark Ritschel.

The wrestling team has been on a winning streak these past few years; this is the third year they participated in the Schuylkill League Championships and won. They have won Schuylkill League Championships this past week, and are now going to Districts.

With the pressure of winning to not lose their two year streak, the team was determined to do their best.

“It felt great knowing we had eight finalists and that we had the win secured early on. We practiced hard in the room leading up to the tournament. I’m looking forward to keeping the streak alive for my senior year,” said Nativity junior Blake Blender.

“It was great working with the team, the coaches made a good plan to win. Everyone did their job and we came through. Last year I wasn’t able to do leagues due to Covid and this year was a good experience and I ended up winning my weight class,” said sophomore Parrish McFarland.

Districts are on February 25 at Liberty High School, and start at 5:00 p.m. The team is still preparing just as much as they did for Schuylkill League Championships.

“It definitely felt good because it felt like there was a weight on our backs because we didn’t want to be the team to end the streak. And for districts I feel really good going into it but I still need to improve every week to get to states,” said Nativity senior Grant Lapachinsky.

The team practices about five to six days a week, with practices being one hour and a half to two hours.
