Senior Alyssa Goodman takes a break from school work and opens up her favorite book. Colleen Hoover self published her book November 9 in 2015.

Some students and staff have a fond love for an author who went viral at the beginning of quarantine. Some might have heard her more popular books like Verity or It Ends With Us. Social media brought a big following to Colleen Hoover and since then, she posts announcements and other content on her pages. Just recently, Hoover announced there will be an upcoming movie about one of her books starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni. She features mostly romance and twisty plots in her books.

“I like reading Colleen Hoover because her books are interesting and there’s a lot happening in the books,” junior Abbey Garrity said. “Normally I don’t like to read but, Colleen Hoover made me get into reading. She has so many books and I can’t wait to read them all.”

Colleen Hoover started her writing career in 2012 when she self-published her first novel Slammed. The novel was initially a Christmas present to her mother but was rejected after trying to publish her work. In 2020, Hoover offered some of her e-books for free which gained her new readers. Not only did her new books gain popularity but her old work appeared on best-sellers lists. Since 2012, Hoover has written 24 books and has received numerous awards. She sold 8.6 million copies of her books in 2022 alone.

“I enjoy reading Colleen Hoover because she creates interesting modern fictional stories with climactic plot twists which makes me want to keep reading,” junior Liv Peleschak said. “I would love to read more of her books.”

Hoover wrote a deeply personal book about her mother and abusive father in 2016 and is one of her most-known books to date. Selling more than a million copies worldwide, Hoover will be making It Ends With Us into a movie. Lily Bloom will be played by Blake Lively and Ryle Kincaid will be played by Justin Baldoni. Hoover wrote It Starts With Us as a sequel last year to give her readers a happy ending.

“I enjoy reading Colleen Hoover’s books because she knows how to write a page-turner,” Mrs. Meredith Pellish said. “I also have a lot of students who read her books, and I love to get to talk to them about what we’ve read.

Book Publishing companies Atria Books and Grand Central Publishing work with Colleen Hoover. Both companies announced in the next five years that Hoover will be releasing 5 new books. Last year, five books by Colleen Hoover made the top ten bestselling books of 2022. Hoover said, “This will never happen in my life again, so I’m going to celebrate it.”
