On February 26, members of PAHS’s jazz band and select members of the choir attended Kutztown University. Over 350 students came from all over to attend Kutztown’s “Jazz and Rock Day.” The day was filled with master classes and clinics for students to help enrich their musical talents and education. The day also included a concert from both the jazz and rock ensembles.

The clinics included lessons about vocal, improvisation, and instrumental techniques. Near the end of the day, the artists and professors got to do a Q&A with all the students and the crowd and learned that the instrumentalists spend 6-8 hours a day playing and working on their instruments.

“I thought it was really insightful learning more about my instrument and how I can do improvisation more efficiently. Jazz is one of those genres where anything goes and it’s all you and what you’re feeling and the clinics really helped enrich that ability for me,” Junior Cole Hoak said.

“The rock and jazz concert was super cool. I think I got a lot out of it by just watching the way they move and the way they feel the music. That’s really going to help me for my future performances,” Freshman Saul Sanchez said.
