Star Wars fans everywhere eagerly waited in line to see the newest movie in the series last month. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story came to theaters December 16, about a year after Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The newest movie in the Star Wars franchise topped box office charts after its release, according to Entertainment Weekly.

“Before I saw the movie, I expected it to be pretty good because Disney makes pretty good movies,” junior Alex Albertini said. “I was still surprised by how good it was. I think it was better than Episode 7.”

The movie received good reviews from critics. IMDb users gave it an 8.1 out of 10 as a rating.

As a spin-off of the original movies, Rogue One is the first Star Wars anthology film. The rumor is that there will be three anthology films, each of which will focus on key characters and events in the Star Wars series. In 2018, Han Solo: A Star Wars Story will be released as the second anthology film. The third movie will be produced in the near future and will explore a popular character, Boba Fett.

Rogue One focuses on how the Rebel Alliance receives the plans of the Death Star and comes up with ways to destroy it. The movie takes place prior to Star Wars: A New Hope. The movie starts off with a young girl, Jyn, the protagonist in the movie, being separated from her family. Years later, she is sought out by members of the Rebel Alliance; they use her to get in contact with her important father.

Other new, notable characters in Rogue One are K-2SO, Cassian Andor, Chirrut Îmwe and Baze Malbus, all of whom become allies of Jyn and aid the Rebel Alliance in stealing the Empire space station’s plans.

While the movie starts off slow, things begin to get heated after rebel forces invade an Empire’s planet. There were many feels at the end of the movie for characters that only got a little time to develop. From the beginning to the end there were many characters introduced, but not much time to learn about them. However, the characters were unique and furthered the plot.

This movie will not disappoint die-hard fans of the Star Wars franchise, and they can expect to be surprised when one of the most well-known characters from the franchise makes an epic appearance.

“I was expecting Jar Jar Binks to make a big comeback, but you can’t have everything, I guess. It was still a good movie,” junior Thomas Honicker said. “My favorite part was when [someone] showed up. If only he was revealed to be Jar Jar Banks, that would have been pretty neat.”
