Over the past month, skepticism has risen about the number of plane crashes occurring. Because of the high number of crashes being reported, people are speculating whether the media is just publicizing more, or if there are more crashes occurring overall.

In 2025 so far, there have been 87 confirmed plane incidents in the United States, with the yearly estimate of plane incidents being around 1,220. In January of 2025, there were ten accidents that were unfortunately fatal, one even involving a commercial airline. Although, the month of January seems to have a record low number of incidents nationwide, with data numbers coming from the National Transportation Safety Board.

Overall, accidents with fatalities or not are being reported as the United States has had their biggest accident in 16 years, being the Potomac River mid-air collision. In the incident, all 67 passengers were unfortunately killed. This incident may have sparked the concern of the amount of crashes occurring, or the media covering more incidents in general.
