While sophomore Abigale Williams creates a card, art supplies cover the table. Sketch Club members delivered cards to Ms. Jacqueline Mitchell, science teacher, for the holiday season to brighten her day. “We have so many talented students in Sketch Club, and this is a great opportunity for them to use their abilities to help others,” Mrs. Sara Arnold, Sketch Club adviser, said.

Imagine being out from work for a while and receiving a surprise present from your former students. Rachel Conville, a Sketch Club member, organized a homemade holiday cheer gift for Ms. Jacqueline Mitchell. Ms. Mitchell, a science teacher, is out recovering from her battle against cancer. She planned to come back to school before break, but was unable to. Conville came up with the idea to get some gifts together in a basket to deliver to Ms. Mitchell.

“I decided to put this together because I was thinking about how nice it would be for the holiday to let her know that we are thinking about her,” Conville said.

Members of Sketch Club had the option to stay after school in the art room December 19 or 20 to make something special for Ms. Mitchell for the holiday season. Members created cards for Ms. Mitchell after school Monday. They also had the option to make cards on their own or donate money toward the gift.  Club members could also take art supplies home to make cards. Cookies and socks were donated to be put in the basket for her as well.
