ETC with Sarah Griffiths

Senior Sarah Griffiths, AP Studio Art student, created a graphite drawing titled “Fudging the Fan.”

CS: “What was the most difficult part of creating this artwork? What was the most enjoyable part?”

SG: “I had a ton of fun creating it, even though it took a while to finish. I had to sit on top of the darkroom in order to capture it. The most difficult part was drawing the paneling on the wall. I was torn between making ‘perfect’ lines and drawing it accurately, but I decided to draw it exactly as it is.”

CS: “What do you think of graphite drawings as a medium?”

SG: “I enjoy working with graphite because I like being able to build up the values.”

CS: “What inspired you to draw this room in particular?”

SG: “I love the loft in Boncore’s room, and sitting on top of the darkroom is relaxing. I really just wanted to draw a room I really love in the high school.”

CS: “How much time did this artwork take compared to your other work?”

SG: “This one took longer than most works because I was never happy with how it looked until I finally finished it.”

CS: “What artist(s) inspire you and what pieces do you like by them?”

SG: “Monet is probably my biggest artist inspiration. My favorite work by him is his collection of water lily paintings
